The public praise from Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider for Revive the Rose is one of the reasons the Niagara band is heading on tour with a wellknown group from the U.S.

About a year ago, the lead singer from the iconic 1980s glam metal outfit tweeted about them, saying “rock is alive and well” after he heard some of their material.

In May, Revive the Rose, comprising three members from Welland and one from St. Catharines, will play five Ontario dates with Adam and the Metal Hawks, a hard rock band from Long Island, N.Y., that has close to one million followers on Instagram.

By coincidence, they are represented by the same management company as Snider, and after Revive the Rose frontman Andy Colonico reached out about working with them, it didn’t take long to receive an invitation to provide opening support on the Ontario leg of Adam and the Metal Hawks’ Canadian tour.

“We put the mutual connection together that way and got the ball rolling,” said Colonico.

“We’re pretty stoked. They’re a pretty big band.”

Adam and the Metal Hawks’ popularity grew last year after a series of viral TikTok videos, which even gained attention from comedian and skilled musician Jack Black.

Revive the Rose will open for the band for five straight nights starting May 25 in Guelph and ending in Barrie.

On May 26, they will hit the stage at Moose and Goose in Thorold.

Revive the Rose’s latest release is a six-track EP, with three songs produced by John-Angus MacDonald from The Trews.

Revive the Rose was formed in 2014 and there have been “many versions” since then, said Colonico.

In the early days, he was the lead singer and drummer, but in today’s lineup he’s the studio drummer and the band has a “hired gun” behind the skins for live shows.

“It’s the healthiest the band has ever been,” said Colonico.

They even have their own beer, Bar Down Lager, which is available in more than a dozen bars.

They have opened for rock acts including The Glorious Sons, PUP,

Monster Truck, The Trews, Headstones and Bush.

Their songs have been featured on radio stations including 102.1 The Edge and 97.7 HTZ-FM, and also during Toronto Maple Leafs games after the team’s official DJ started using one of their tracks during warmups and play stoppages.

The same song, “Bar Down,” has been featured in NHL 2021, the popular video game by EA Sports.
