Glorious Sons return for free eclipse show

- JOHN LAW REPORTER

The Glorious Sons aren’t quite done with Niagara yet.

Just two months after ending their tour with a Feb. 17 show at Meridian Centre in St. Catharines, the Kingston rockers will play a free show at Queen Victoria Park in Niagara Falls April 8 following the total solar eclipse.

The Niagara Falls Tourism event will kick off with Niagara Symphony Orchestra playing a prelude to the eclipse and will resume playing once totality is reached.

During and after the eclipse, a full day of music begins at 2:30 p.m. and goes until 10 p.m.

In addition to The Glorious Sons, the lineup will include JJ Wilde, New Friends and The Boneheads.

Earlier this month, National Geographic had seeing the eclipse in Niagara Falls as its top-rated travel experience for 2024.

The eclipse will begin at 2:04 p.m. and last for about two and a half hours. The sun will be fully eclipsed from about 3:20 p.m. to 3:23 p.m.

With a massive crowd expected to converge on the city that day, Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati said the aim of the concert is to keep people here for the rest of the day and night.

“With Niagara Falls as the epicentre on the path of totality, we knew the day had to be special.”

Other eclipse-related events in the area include NASA and Canadian Space Agency talks at Old Fort Erie April 5 to 8, Astronomy in Action at Niagara Parks Power Station April 5 to 8, the Star Wars Intergalactic Dance Party at The Niagara Falls Exchange April 6 and a world record attempt at Queen Victoria Park April 8 for most people dressed like the sun.

The best views for the eclipse will be from Niagara River Parkway, Table Rock Centre, Skylon Tower and Niagara Skywheel.
