Morton brings the laughs to annual Komedy for Kidneys show

- JOHN LAW REPORTER

“America’s Got Talent” favourite Greg Morton will headline this year’s Komedy for Kidneys benefit show in Niagara Falls.

The Woodstock comedian was a semifinalist in season 14 in 2019, amusing the judges with his vocal impressions and charming humour. He’ll headline a night of stand-up comedy featuring Evan Carter, Keh Dee, Paul Haywood, Ryan Sim and Komedy for Kidneys co-founder Mark Matthews.

Morton will be making his first local appearance in more than 25 years.

“I’ve always had a great time performing in Niagara Falls,” he said. “They’re great people and big laughers. Plus, I’m so excited to be working with my good friend, Mark Matthews. We got a lot of catching up to do and this show is for such a great cause.”

Now in its 17th year, Komedy for Kidneys was renamed in memory of Niagara Falls comedian Rodney Pentland, who died from complications related to kidney disease in 2009. Last year’s show brought in more than $21,500.

Combined, the annual shows have raised nearly $150,000 for Niagara Health Foundation in support of dialysis care in the region. The foundation’s kidney care program supports nearly 400 patients who require hemodialysis three to five times per week.

“I’m proud of the fact we’ve been able to keep Rodney’s memory alive all these years, while at the same time raising both awareness and money for dialysis care in Niagara,” said Komedy for Kidneys cofounder Dino Fazio.

Morton said his stint on “America’s Got Talent” “opened so many doors,” including a chance to host the Cirque du Soleil show “Mad Apple” on the strip in Las Vegas.

Komedy for Kidneys returns to Greg Frewin Theatre March 28 at 8:20 p.m. Tickets are $25.99 plus fees/taxes, available at www.GregFrewinTheatre.com or by phoning 905-356-0777.
