Niagara police appoint two new deputy chiefs
Niagara Regional Police promoted two of its own to fill deputy chief roles left vacant with the appointment of former deputy Bill Fordy to chief and the retirement of deputy Brett Flynn last month.
Twenty-five-year NRP officers Todd Waselovich, most recently emergency and investigative services superintendent, and Luigi Greco, most recently superintendent of executive services, have been appointed to the positions.
“We are pleased to welcome Waselovich and Greco to their new roles,” board chair Jen Lawson said in a release.
Fordy, who replaced former chief Bryan MacCulloch after he ended his 39-year policing career at the end of January, said he looks forward to working with his new deputy chiefs.
“Their combined experience, passion and commitment to public safety and wellness will be a tremendous asset to the community we serve,” Fordy said.
Waselovich, a designated critical incident commander, has leadership experience in operational services and support and has served in several positions, including uniform patrol, detective services, special investigative services, emergency services, labour relations and professional development
The release said he is also provincially recognized as an expert in law enforcement, collaborating with partners to combat the fentanyl and opioid crisis.
“It is a true privilege to have been selected by the board to serve in this role,” Waselovich said of his promotion.
The new deputy chief has a bachelor of arts degree in social science from University of Windsor, labour relations certification from Queen’s University and completed the Rotman Police Leadership Program at the University of Toronto school of management executive programs.
Greco served in a variety of areas, including uniform patrol, detective services, special investigative services, criminal investigations, communications, major crime, professional standards and professional development.
He’s has received numerous commendations and awards throughout his career. In 2019 he was a recipient of the Police Exemplary Service Medal.
Greco has a law and security diploma from Niagara College, and completed courses in labour studies and sociology at Brock University and police studies at McMaster University. He, too, recently completed the Rotman police leadership program.
In the release, Lawson said the three men will provide stability to the police service and work to ensure public safety is the No. 1 priority in Niagara.
