Here comes the suns: Niagara Falls aims for costume record
For people who haven’t figured out what they’re going to wear during Monday’s once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse evnt, the City of Niagara Falls has a suggestion.
Go big. As in celestial.
The city is teaming up with Niagara City Cruises in inviting participants to help try to break a world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as the sun.
And, yes, for the record, Guinness already has an entry on the books. The current record was achieved by China Life Insurance Co. Ltd. in December 2020, when 287 participants donned the outfits.
With a one-million figure bouncing around as the number of people expected to descend on the city on Monday, surely that record can be broken.
The city is aiming to achieve this by having 300 people get on board a Niagara City Cruise vessel dressed in a sun costume, which will be provided to those who take part.
To take part, people must register online at niagarafalls.ca/living/solar-eclipse-2024.aspx. Click on the Where to Watch and Events button.
Registration must be done by 4 p.m. on Sunday.
To take part, people must meet the following requirements:
■ Arrive on location (Niagara City Cruises Main Ticket Plaza — beside the zipline tower at 5920 Niagara River Pkwy.) on April 8 by 8 a.m. (firm).
Parking will be at a premium in the area, and some road closures are anticipated. The city encourages participants to be dropped off/ picked up, ride a bike, or find other transportation methods if possible;
■ Arrive wearing solid-coloured

An official Guinness World Records adjudicator will be present to confirm the record attempt.
