Bill Stockill has hot hand for the Aces

- JEFF STEVENS SPECIAL TO THE ST. CATHARINES STANDARD

Bill Stockill is no stranger to bowling under pressure.

Just a few weeks ago, he was an emergency call-up to the Niagara seniors team participating in the provincial leg of the Canadian Open Championships in Brantford, filling in for Tim Dixon, who was unable to continue.

The morning of the match, Stockill received a call that he was needed. He made the roughly one-hour drive and “walked out of my car, and onto the lanes,” he said, and had a decent showing to finish the tournament.

Stockill took matters into his own hands in the Niagara Five Pin Mixed Pro League, as well, as he sparked the Accelerated Health and Wellness Aces to a commanding 3-0 win over the DJB Bean Counters.

The win gave the Aces a little push closer to the top of the standings with two weeks to go in the season.

Stockill started the night with an excellent 304 and followed up with a pair of 276 games to lead the way with his best output of the season, a fantastic 855. Helping him along were Duke Brooks, with a 691 score (241, 235), and Wendy Bonnette, with a 660 (219, 234).

The Bean Counters replied with Paul Asselin’s 663 (224, 234).

The second-best individual performance of the evening was by Ryan Kulikowski, who rolled an 854 (295, 297, 262) to pace the Upper Deck Strikers to a 2-1 decision over Bugsy’s Seagulls. Joe Thomas carded 649 (215, 242) in the win.

Kayla Ferguson led the Seagulls with a 613 score (210, 246).

The league-leading Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints took a stranglehold on the top spot following a 2-1 victory over BCAPMALL Productions.

Tyler Wendel, continuing a hot streak he’s been on for the past month, led the way with a solid 740 (278, 253, 209). Nathan MarrSchoenfeldt added 712 (221, 202, 289) and Brad Gaudreau counted 670 (211, 268).

BCAPMALL answered with Chris Disher’s 693 (217, 271).

In the evening’s closest match, decided by 73 pins, the Fiddler’s Pourhouse Fighting Irish edged Dr. Allison Zaruk’s Main Street Chiropractic, 2-1. Shawn Pellizari’s 778 (243, 288, 247) and Chris Lyttle’s 763 (304, 243, 216) led the way for the Fighting Irish.

Main Street Chiropractic was paced by Kile Robins, with a 764 (214, 250, 300); his mother, Vicky Robins, with a 703 (231, 238, 234); and Brian McFarlane, who scored 651 (206, 244).

Big Red’s Meatballs knocked off D Fisher’s Legacy, 2-1, in the nightcap. Jordan Gravelle, with 735 (268, 216, 251); Ryan Dixon, with 713 (292, 219, 202); Brad Maurice, with 689 (253, 224); and Chris Gravelle, with 658 (234, 244), were top contributors for Big Red’s.

Legacy was led by Rob Fisher’s 713 (276, 242), Mark Belanger’s 683 (298) and P.J. Cole’s 681 (245, 268).
