Niagara Parks golf season set to tee off
It’s time to tee off in Niagara Falls as Niagara Parks is opening all of its golf courses for the 2024 season on Friday.
Courses include Whirlpool Golf Course as well as three courses at the Legends on the Niagara golf complex.
Whirlpool Golf Course
Whirlpool Golf Course, along the Niagara River Gorge, was designed by legendary Canadian golf architect Stanley Thompson. The course is said to feature challenging terrain, lush fairways and has stunning views of the gorge.
Niagara Parks says the course, which was meant to be enjoyable yet challenging for all skill levels, will undergo a phased renovation to bring it closer to the original design intent by Thompson.
The renovation aims to protect the long-term sustainability of the course, mitigate the risk of winter injury and maintain high standards.
The first phase of the project will start at hole 18, where some bunkers and four to eight trees will be removed. The work will also include planting 65 trees to direct golfers to the right side of the hole and reduce the risk of balls going onto the roadway.
The newly renovated Whirlpool Bar and Lounge will reopen May 17.
Legends on the Niagara golf complex
Legends on the Niagara in Chippawa features two championship courses, a nine-hole executive course, a driving range, clubhouse facilities and TaylorMade Niagara Performance Centre and Golf Academy. Battlefield Golf Course
■ Battlefield Golf Course is on the north side of the property and features a mix of wide, links-style holes with fairways that sweep across lush greens, dense forest and brush, Niagara Parks says. Ussher’s Creek
■ The Ussher’s Creek course is on the south side of the Legends on the Niagara property and features a challenging course that’s said to be breathtaking, with thick stands of deciduous trees, wetland hazards, knee-high fescue rough and what’s been described as impeccable conditioning from tee to green. ■ The nine-hole Chippawa Executive Course is said to provide golfers of all skill levels a different challenge at each hole.
Legends on the Niagara Restaurant will be open daily for both golfers and the public. It offers a locally sourced menu prepared by chef Rick Bieber, as well as an extensive list of local craft beer, wine and spirits.
