Beatles drummer brings All-Starr Band back to Fallsview Casino

- JOHN LAW REPORTER

After 12 years Ringo Starr will get back to Niagara Falls this September.

The famed Beatles drummer brings the 2024 version of his All-Starr Band to the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino on Sept. 22.

Joining him will be several players from previous tours: Edgar Winter, Steve Lukather of Toto, Colin Hay of Men at Work, Hamish Stuart of Average White Band, saxophone player Warren Ham and codrummer Gregg Bissonette.

It will be Starr’s first time performing in Niagara Falls since he opened three straight AllStarr Band tours in 2008, 2010 and 2012 at the 1,500-seat Avalon Theatre.

For all three of those visits, Starr was in town with his band for two weeks of rehearsals, holding a large media day before the first show. Beatles fans, writers and TV/radio personalities from across Canada and the U.S. would attend.

For the second night of his 2012 appearance, Starr rescheduled the show from 7 to 9 p.m. to accommodate the Nik Wallenda tightwire walk in Niagara Falls that night.

For all three visits, he was exuberant in his love for the city.

“I love looking out the window and seeing those falls,” he said in 2010. “We have a really relaxed time (here). We’re well looked after and as far as I’m concerned, we’ll come back every other year.”

But after 2012, Starr made the switch to Casino Rama to start the tour. At the time, Fallsview said a “scheduling issue” was the reason, but Starr did not return until this year.

The band will kick off its 2024 tour with 12 shows this spring, starting May 22 in Las Vegas.

Nine additional dates in the fall were announced Thursday, with Niagara Falls being the only Canadian stop.

Since 1989, different variations of the All-Starr Band have toured. Starr has joked that membership in the band usually requires one or two hit songs and availability.

Previous members have included Clarence Clemons, Joe Walsh, Todd Rundgren, Randy Bachman and Peter Frampton.

The typical show sees Starr play several of his Beatles and solo hits, with each member performing three of their own classics.

Tickets for the Fallsview show go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.ca
