Niagara-on-the-Lake builder gifts 4 Thorold townhomes to Habitat for Humanity
Centennial Homes has gifted four Thorold South townhomes to Habitat for Humanity Niagara.
Habitat chief executive officer Mark Carl said the organization never dreamed such a gift would be given to the non-profit.
In a release, Carl said it’s a significant contribution to Habitat and the community as a whole, because it allows the organization to build more affordable housing to help Niagara families.
“By building these four townhomes, Centennial Homes and their team of subtrades will make a positive impact on the lives of local families who will soon call these homes their own,” said Carl during a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday.
Centennial founder and president Domenic DiLalla said the collaboration exemplifies the company’s commitment to making a meaningful impact, one home at a time.
“As a locally owned, family business, it brings myself and my staff great joy to be able to give back to the community that has helped us grow. Together, we are not just building houses, we are building hope, stability and brighter futures for our community,” DiLalla said in the release.
Eighteen companies, including suppliers and subtrades, and the Niagara Home Builders’ Association are supporting Centennial Homes, based in Niagara-on-the-Lake, as it builds the townhomes on Mary Street.
“Their efforts to address the affordable housing crisis are crucial,” said Carl. “We hope projects like these continue to gain momentum and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.’’
He said qualified families that are selected for home ownership partner with Habitat by completing 500 volunteer hours and pay an affordable mortgage. The mortgage payments are deposited into a “fund for humanity,” allowing the agency the opportunity to build more homes and serve more families.
