Ammonia released at Courtright plant
CF Industries says no injuries resulted from a release of ammonia Tuesday afternoon at its Courtright Nitrogen manufacturing site. It happened at 4:20 p.m. at the site’s urea plant, the company said.“There are no off-site impacts and all employees have been safely accounted for,” the company said. Walt Anderson, fire chief in St. Clair Township, said it responded to the emergency at the site.“They had a small release of ammonia that set off their alarms,” Anderson said. “We checked the air monitoring around the plant and nothing got off-site.” Anderson said CF Industries was able to isolate and shut down the unit safely. CF Industries said provincial officials also were notified of the incident.
