Clarenville Nordic skiers place at N.L. Cup races

The Clarenville Nordic skiers are very pleased with their re­sults after plac­ing at the New­found­land and Labrador Cup races at Air­port Nordic in Gander.

The group had an ex­tremely strong show­ing in both the fe­male and male cat­e­gories, rac­ing on both Satur­day (sprints) and Sun­day (dis­tance), March 24-25.

Satur­day’s sprints saw Clarenville Nordics Jo­ce­lyn Coates and Katie Spurrell ski to a first and sec­ond place fin­ish re­spec­tively in the Ban­tam girls fi­nals.

Mark Spurrell, also from Clarenville Nordic, was the top male skier in the Pee­wee boys cat­e­gory.

Sun­day’s dis­tance races saw sim­i­lar re­sults with Jo­ce­lyn and Katie fin­ish­ing first and sec­ond in the 3.2-kilo­me­tre Ban­tam girls, and Mark fin­ish­ing first in the Ban­tam boys 3.2-kilo­me­tre race.

Jil­lian Coates, in the Midget girls com­pet­i­tive divi­sion skied to a first place fin­ish in 6.4-kilo­me­tre freestyle event.

Trevor Coates, ski team coach, also joined in the fun.

He picked up two sec­ond place fin­ishes in the mas­ter cat­e­gory.
