More medals for Clarenville Nordic skiers to cap off the sea­son

The Clarenville Nordic skiers con­cluded a suc­cess­ful sea­son with the Cross Coun­try NL pro­vin­cial cham­pi­onships on the tip of the North­ern Penin­sula, hosted by Aurora Nordic, St. An­thony Ski Club.

Skiers Katie and Mark Spurrell, along with Jil­lian and Jo­ce­lyn Coates, with their dad and coach Trevor Coates all par­tic­i­pated and placed.

The races were ini­tially planned for Clarenville back in Fe­bru­ary, how­ever, be­cause of the lack of snow at the time, the com­pe­ti­tion was can­celled.

For­tu­nately, Aurora Nordic ac­cepted the of­fer to host the event.

The provin­cials con­sisted of two days of rac­ing, with the clas­sic event held on Satur­day, fol­lowed by a mass-start freestyle event on Sun­day.

Mark Spurrell won two gold medals in the pee­wee boys cat­e­gory, while Katie Spurrell took home two bronze in the mini mid­get cat­e­gory.

Jo­ce­lyn Coates won a sil­ver medal in the mini mid­get clas­sic race and gold in the freestyle race.

Jil­lian Coates won two gold medals in the mid­get girls cat­e­gory.

Coach Coates also placed, win­ning a sil­ver medal in the mas­ters 2 cat­e­gory.

Clarenville Mi­nor Hockey seeks parental in­volve­ment

CLARENVILLE, N.L. — The Clarenville and Area Mi­nor Hockey As­so­ci­a­tion is look­ing for any in­ter­ested par­ents to at­tend their up­com­ing an­nual gen­eral meet­ing.

The CAMHA ex­ec­u­tive is­sued a call to par­ents to come to their meet­ing on Wed­nes­day May 16, at 7 p.m. to be­come more in­volved in the mi­nor hockey pro­grams.

“If you are shy or hes­i­tant about speak­ing in a meet­ing, you may for­ward cor­re­spon­dence to the pres­i­dent or sec­re­tary on your be­half,” reads the re­lease.

There will be a slate of elected po­si­tions for the as­so­ci­a­tion in­clud­ing: pres­i­dent, vice-pres­i­dent, trea­surer, sec­re­tary, head hockey par­ent, reg­is­trar, equip­ment man­ager, and di­rec­tor po­si­tions (Mid­get, Ban­tam, Pee­wee, Atom, Novice, Pre-Novice, Un­der-20 Fe­male, Un­der-15 Fe­male and Un­der12 Fe­male).
