Catalina man charged with attempted murder
BONAVISTA, N.L.— A
26-year-old Catalina man is facing a total of 15 charges relating to an alleged incident that occurred Monday night, April
Tyler Hicks is facing two charges of attempted murder, two charges of aggravated assault, and six charges of assault.
He is also facing charges of uttering threats, carrying a weapon (a bat) for a dangerous purpose, and dangerous use of a motor vehicle.
According to a press release issued by RCMP, police responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision that had allegedly occurred in a parking lot in Bonavista.
All three occupants of one of the vehicles were taken to Bonavista Hospital.
One person had to be removed from the vehicle with the assistance of the Bonavista Fire Department.
Hicks will appear in Clarenville provincial courthouse again Thursday, April 26, for a status report.
He will remain in police custody until then.
Bonavista peninsula man facing sexual assault charges
CLARENVILLE, N.L.— A 77-year-old man from a community on the Bonavista peninsula is facing five charges of sexual assault, two charges of sexual interference, one charge of an invitation to sexual touching, and one charge of sexual exploitation.
The alleged incidents involve multiple victims and the alleged incidents span from 2004 to 2017.
The accused will appear in Clarenville provincial court June 7.
He is not held in police custody.
In the interest of protecting the identity of the victims, the Packet has decided not to identify the accused or his community of residence.
Gordon Wheaton denied bail
CLARENVILLE, NL— The man charged with making a threat, via email, against Riverside Elementary, has been denied bail.
Judge Paul Noble made the official decision last week at Clarenville provincial court.
Gordon Wheaton, 45, was first arrested March 13 for allegedly uttering a threat against the Clarenville school.
He was released on bail that same afternoon, and later arrested that same night for allegedly breaking one of the conditions of his release.
He will appear in court again April 26.
