Catalina man charged with at­tempted mur­der

BON­AV­ISTA, N.L.— A

26-year-old Catalina man is fac­ing a to­tal of 15 charges re­lat­ing to an al­leged in­ci­dent that oc­curred Mon­day night, April

16.

Tyler Hicks is fac­ing two charges of at­tempted mur­der, two charges of ag­gra­vated as­sault, and six charges of as­sault.

He is also fac­ing charges of ut­ter­ing threats, car­ry­ing a weapon (a bat) for a danger­ous pur­pose, and danger­ous use of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle.

Ac­cord­ing to a press re­lease is­sued by RCMP, po­lice re­sponded to a re­port of a two-ve­hi­cle col­li­sion that had al­legedly oc­curred in a park­ing lot in Bon­av­ista.

All three oc­cu­pants of one of the ve­hi­cles were taken to Bon­av­ista Hos­pi­tal.

One per­son had to be re­moved from the ve­hi­cle with the as­sis­tance of the Bon­av­ista Fire Depart­ment.

Hicks will ap­pear in Clarenville pro­vin­cial court­house again Thurs­day, April 26, for a sta­tus re­port.

He will re­main in po­lice cus­tody un­til then.

Bon­av­ista penin­sula man fac­ing sex­ual as­sault charges

CLARENVILLE, N.L.— A 77-year-old man from a com­mu­nity on the Bon­av­ista penin­sula is fac­ing five charges of sex­ual as­sault, two charges of sex­ual in­ter­fer­ence, one charge of an in­vi­ta­tion to sex­ual touch­ing, and one charge of sex­ual ex­ploita­tion.

The al­leged in­ci­dents in­volve mul­ti­ple vic­tims and the al­leged in­ci­dents span from 2004 to 2017.

The ac­cused will ap­pear in Clarenville pro­vin­cial court June 7.

He is not held in po­lice cus­tody.

In the in­ter­est of pro­tect­ing the iden­tity of the vic­tims, the Packet has de­cided not to iden­tify the ac­cused or his com­mu­nity of res­i­dence.

Gor­don Wheaton de­nied bail

CLARENVILLE, NL— The man charged with mak­ing a threat, via email, against River­side El­e­men­tary, has been de­nied bail.

Judge Paul Noble made the of­fi­cial de­ci­sion last week at Clarenville pro­vin­cial court.

Gor­don Wheaton, 45, was first ar­rested March 13 for al­legedly ut­ter­ing a threat against the Clarenville school.

He was re­leased on bail that same af­ter­noon, and later ar­rested that same night for al­legedly break­ing one of the con­di­tions of his re­lease.

He will ap­pear in court again April 26.
