The Clarenville WaveRunners earned, for the first time, the title of Summer Club Champions in Gander Aug. 24-26.

The club received top points for the male division and second place in the female division, with the added total points coming out on top.

Besides winning the provincial title, there were many individual achievements including six broken records, four top achiever awards, and many personal bests.

McCall Ryles of the 17/18 male division broke three records (100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m IM). Ryles was also a member of the 17/18 male freestyle and medley relay teams that broke records in both swims at the event. Other members of the relay team were Noah Bruce, Isaac Avery and Jack Ryles.

The 13/14 female medley relay team also broke the record for their swim. Members of the team were Sara Squibb, Jessica Oldford, Heather Prosser and Amy Stephenson.

WaveRunner’s awarded top achiever included Lucas Hiscock (11/12 male division), Jack Ryles (15/16 male division), Mia Winsor (17/18 female division) and McCall Ryles (17/18 male division).

Over 400 swimmers (including 67 from WaveRunners) represented nine teams from across the province.

“All of our swimmers performed well and their hard work has paid off,” said WaveRunners vice-president Tracey Bruce. “It says a lot for our swimmers and coaches. To say we are proud is an understatement. This has been a goal our club has dreamed and worked hard for since the beginning of the WaveRunners.

“Not having a community pool to swim in, we’ve been very lucky to have access to the Wave Hotel’s pool to for our practices.”
