Fuelling the environment
dor movement of wildlife, Randell said.
The end goal is to have the St. Clair River area delisted as a concern in five years.
Kris Lee, chair of the Wallaceburg Advisory Team for Cleaner Habitat (WATCH) and FOSCR board member, said projects funded by the Shell money would benefit her community.
“This project is going to support landowners (to help) put in buffer zones,” said Lee. “Wallaceburg is at the downstream end of many of these tributaries, so having these buffer zones — the water will be less turbid and more clear after a rainfall.”
Lee said several environmentally-minded groups have banded together to encourage votes from friends and associates to keep FOSCR at the top.
“That'sreallywhatweneed, people remembering to take a minute and cast their vote for us,” said Randell. “We're the best bet for using the money in Ontario (in the $100,000 category.) If they give it to us we'll get ‘er spent.”
He said the group won't fully fundprojects, butmatchwhatpartners bring to the table in order to facilitate a higher number of projects.
FOSCR will be getting $10,000 regardless just for having their project approved for the Fuelling Change challenge.
“We're extremely appreciative of that to Shell,” said Randell, of the money. “And with that taste, we'd like more.”
