Officers in Woodville arena assault case honoured at OPP awards
Girl, 5, honoured for bravery
LINDSAY — The Woodville girl who was assaulted in 2010 – as well as the City of Kawartha Lakes Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers who investigated the case – were honoured at an OPP awards ceremony Thursday.
“It was very nice,” Insp. Rob Shaw told QMI Agency on Monday.
He said the young girl's family accompanied her to the Nottawasaga Inn Resort and Conference Centre in Alliston, Ont. for the OPP Central Region awards where the now five-year-old was honoured for bravery.
The officers honoured for outstanding investigation were Const. Michael Cavanagh, Det. Const. Marsha Corbett, Const. Victoria Fisher, Det. Const Timothy Ginn, Det. Const Mark Groenke, Const. Carol Heard, Det. Const Patrick Hickey, Det. Const Jacqueline Hildenbrand, Det. Const Brian Mc Dermott, Det. Const Daniel Obress, Det. Sgt. Jennifer Robertson, Shaw, Const. Krista Tabur and Det. Const Kara Weir.
The ceremony recognized dedicated years of service within the OPP, the Ontario Public Service and police and citizen acts of bravery, lifesaving, community service, and exemplary performance of duty, investigations, selfless actions and assistance to the OPP.
The following officers were alo recognized:
� Police Exemplary Service Medal (20 years): Const. Kris Size.
� Exemplary Performance of Duty: detective constables Corbett, Ginn, Mark, Hickey, Hildenbrand, McDermott, Obress, Robertson, Tabur and Weir.
� Commissioner’s Commendations – community service: Const. Gerrit Brouwer.
� Also recognized for years of service were the following officers and staff:
Const. Peter Ackerman, Corbett, Groenke, Const. Peter Kingston, Sgt. Mark Wolfe (25 years), civilian Chris O’ Connor (30 years), Const. Bruce Kane (35 years), Const. Kenneth Pengelly (45 years).
