RIVER DOGS FIRST AT STRATHROY TOURNEY
Over the weekend the Peterborough River Dogs Senior Baseball Team captured the Strathroy Men’s Invitational Baseball Tournament posting a 4-1 record. The River Dogs pounded out 10 home runs to capture the title.
In Game 1 Saturday, Peterborough was defeated in extra innings by Niagara Falls 4-3, despite a strong pitching performance by Fil Cammisuli. Kyle Maloney led the way for Peterborough with a home run and a single and Tyler Plumpton had 2 hits and an RBI.
In the second game the River Dogs defeated/eliminated the hometown Strathroy Royals 5-1 with Gary Rose picking up the win for Peterborough. Plumpton and Casey Burnie provided the offense with home runs and 2 RBI's each. Mark Minnema also had 2 hits.
In Game 3 the River Dogs defeated Ilderton 8-5 with Tommy Kempt picking up the win for Peterborough. Rose and Chambers Middlebrook each hit a home run. Plumpton had 3 hits and 2 RBIs and Minnema drove in 2 runs and also had 2 hits.
In the semi-final Peterborough defeated Oakville 7-6. Plumpton hit a three run walk off home run in the bottom of the 7th inning and had 5 RBIs. Kempt picked up the win and Dave Anderson had a strong pitching performance allowing only 2 runs. Burnie also had a home run.
In the championship game Plumpton pitched a complete game as Peterborough defeated Oakville 6-1. Middlebrook led the way with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. Ryan Hannan had a home run and 2 RBI's.
The next game in league play for the River Dogs is Thursday when they travel to Martingrove. The next home game is Saturday at Riverside Park at 1
