Rugby clubhouse grand opening Saturday
Annual Rugby Day in Peterborough matches all day Saturday at Nicholls Oval
The Peterborough Rugby Union Football Club is celebrating its long-awaited grand opening of its new clubhouse on Saturday.
The Pagans will be celebrating the event with a full weekend of action at the Nicholls Oval site highlighted by a noon ribbon cutting Saturday to open the clubhouse.
The building, the former Peterborough Lawn Bowling Clubhouse, was relocated from McDonnel St. in the fall of 2011. It’s taken time to build a founda- tion, featuring dressing room facilities, and renovate the inside with volunteer workers.
The festivities will kick off Friday with mini rugby, ages U6 to U12, playing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a barbecue. A Celebration of the Generations will be held from 8 to 8:30 p.m.
The annual Rugby Day in Peterborough is Saturday starting at 9 a.m. with the U15 girls playing followed by the U16 boys at 10:30 a.m. and the ribbon cutting and opening ceremonies to follow.
The Pagans senior women will play Balmy Beach at 12:15 p.m., the men’s Seconds face Barrie at 1:30 p.m. and the Firsts meet Barrie at 3 p.m. A post-game gathering will be held 5 to 6 p.m. followed by a recognition of club volunteers and supporters. Tours of the clubhouse are available throughout the day.
Celebrations conclude on Sunday with the Kawartha Krocks playing Kingston and Belleville at 1 p.m. with a postgame gathering from 3 to 5 p.m. A barbecue will be operating throughout the weekend. All are welcome to attend.
