Inaugural swap meet Saturday prior to racing

- JIM CLARKE Special to The Examiner Jim Clarke Motorsports Communications does publicity for several Central Ontario race tracks.

Peterborough Speedway will take on the look of a bargain shop prior to its regular card of racing Saturday.

The Sherbrooke St. W. stock car oval will host its inaugural swap meet prior to the racing program. The crowd is welcome to come to the track early for some great bargains.

The card which follows features the Moi Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Vanguard Self Storage Late Model and Ontario Legend divisions. Racing will conclude with a 100 lap endurance event featuring a combined four and six cylinder category and eight cylinder entries.

Track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says the idea of a swap meet came from talking to the fans.

“We always have a number of people who come to the track early,” Josiasse said.

“They barbecue, socialize, play horseshoes and talk about the previous week’s racing. Having a swap meet gives them a little something extra to do. It’s kind of like going to a garage sale, but without the garage. It should be interesting to see how it turns out.”

Peterborough Speedway is looking for swap meet vendors. Each seller will receive a free 10 x 10 foot space, along with two general admission tickets for the night’s racing at no extra charge. Setup is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. with gates opening at 4 p.m. As always, the race program will get underway at 6 p.m.
