ONLINE TESTING SET UP
The Youth Sports Concussion Program has opened a web-based system for youth and parents to set up their free baseline testing from home.
Through a partnership with both local school boards, many students have already had the opportunity to participate i n free baseline testing. The baseline test is an eightminute online computerized cognitive assessment tool (CCAT) that captures the cognitive functioning of the brain and creates a baseline measurement. Completing the baseline test before an i njury is crucial as repeating the same tasks after the i njury helps to i dentify any cognitive changes. This comparison assists health-care providers i n clinical diagnosis of concussions and treatment plans. However, due to young brains rapidly developing and changing, the baseline tests expire after one year and therefore must be retaken annually.
To receive free baseline testing credits, children must be residents of Peterborough city or county, 10 years of age or older, attending elementary or high school, and have a family physician i n Peterborough city or county.
