Woman pleads not guilty to criminal harassment, public mischief

A woman charged with fabricatin­g threats in order to turn police attention toward her husband’s former partner began her trial Friday morning.

pleaded

not guilty to charges of public mischief and criminal harassment.

The Crown’s case focuses on several text messages sent to family members associated with Kensit and Karen Marinigh.

The messages contained threatenin­g and hurtful language, and were sent to Kensit, her husband Greg and two of Marinigh’s three daughters.

There is no love lost between Marinigh and Kensit.

Marinigh testified Monday her marriage broke up for good in 2010 when her husband decided to resume his previous relationsh­ip with Kensit.

Marinigh testified she was charged with mischief, harassment and breaching a court order. Those charges were withdrawn at the request of the Crown Feb. 7, 2012.

Court heard Kensit called police Feb. 3, 2012, hours after receiving the messages that appeared to be sent from the phone of Nicole Kensit, Marinigh’s daughter, shortly before 2 a.m.

Nicole Kensit testified that she never sent the messages. Her phone was resting by her bedside, court heard, and was there when she woke up in the morning.

OPP Const. Marc Gravelle testified he spoke with Danielle Kensit when she called to complain about the text messages.

During that conversati­on, he told court, Kensit indicated her displeasur­e with Marinigh’s case, he told court.

The trial resumes Friday.
