Lee Westwood, who this week announced he had become a student of Canadian swing coach Sean Foley, got himself into the hunt Friday with a 3under-par 68, a score he pronounced after would be the "best of the day," and was correct.

Westwood, who putted well Friday, must have his swing in order and it showed on the 15th hole. We all know links golf is quirky, but playing downwind it can get downright ridiculous.

Westwood, hoping to avoid a bunker about 360 yards off the tee, did just that but walked up to find his ball in a sand trap some 400 yards out. He was gobsmacked. "It's tough out there," Westwood told ESPN's Tom Rinaldi following his round. "The big difference is the wind has changed direction since the practice rounds, so we're playing the golf course completely different.

"Holes like 15 are downwind and a bunker I didn't think was going to be in play at 400 yards, I hit it into."

The Englishman revitalized his career in the past decade with a much publicized workout routine, but flexing his muscles like that even impressed Westwood himself.

"Well, you know, I'm 40 years old now, I shouldn't be able to hit it 400 yards." game on the weekend and avoid what Brandt Snedeker referred to this week as "typical American mistakes," (both of those men made a few Friday), Bubba may get into contention for his second major title.
