Donohoe, Canada earn silver medal

Peterborou­gh's Katie Donohoe and her Team Canada teammates won a silver medal at the Federation of Internatio­nal Lacrosse Women's World Cup in Oshawa on Saturday.

Canada lost 19-5 to the unbeaten United States who handed Canada their only two losses in seven tournament games. It was Canada's best ever showing at the World Cup as they reached the final for the first time and earned their first silver medal.

Donohoe, a standout at Monmouth University, played goal. She played 27 minutes and 46 seconds allowing 11 goals on 17 shots. Her replacemen­t allowed eight goals on eight shots.

It's the Americans’ second straight and seventh overall World Cup title. They ran up a 14-2 first half advantage. Katie Rowan earned Player of the Match honours for the U.S. with eight goals and two assists.
