The Trent Aboriginal Cultural Knowledge and Science (TRACKS) Program is offering two summer day camps for children ages eight to 11 and youth 12 to 15 years old.

Each camp offers a week exploring the world from multiple perspectiv­es, sharing knowledge, and building relationsh­ips through a variety of activities including plant walks, water sampling, active games, field trips, traditiona­l food procuremen­t, DNA extraction, looking at water from several perspectiv­es, flight lessons, sharing circle, medicine teachings, storytelli­ng, gardening and guest visits from Elders and knowledge holders.

Camp No. 1 for kids ages eight to 11 begins today and runs until Friday while camp No. 2 for youth ages 12-15 runs the week of Monday, July 29, with each camp running daily from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Camps are based at Trent University with much of the time spent outdoors exploring and on field trips.

TRACKS was developed under the direction of a group of interested students, professors and community members involved with Trent University’s Indigenous Environmen­tal Studies (IES) Program, who Junior Park Program: Free drop-in program, sponsored by the City of Peterborou­gh Recreation program, for children four to eight years old begins today and runs until Aug. 9 at Barnardo Park, weekdays from 9 a.m. until noon. The Athletics Centre at the Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre at Trent University is offering an Orcka Safe Canoe Program, a threehour course especially designed for the first-time paddler.

This program stresses basic safety while providing the participan­ts with performanc­e informatio­n such as entering and exiting the canoe, paddling position, stopping, and landing. There is no prerequisi­te for the course.
