Fundraising efforts continue with two movie nights, including Brave (93 minutes) showing this Friday and Despicable Me (95 minutes) Friday, Aug. 9. Movies are preceded by Minuscule shorts and other alternative children’s flicks.
Doors open just before 7 p.m. for everyone to settle in before the movie start time of 7:30 p.m. Viewers should bring their own blankets, chairs and weather appropriate outwear. Picnic tables will also be available for seating. The nearby park washrooms will be open during the shows.
Suggested donation for the movie is $10 per family or $4 per person. Donations of $10 or more will qualify for a city issued tax receipt. Please note that movie titles may be subject to change. For confirmation of titles check the website at helpmakeasplash.weebly.com.
Snacks will be available during movie nights with these proceeds also going into the fund for playground upgrades. Treats and prices include: pizza (pepperoni or cheese) $2; popcorn and Cracker Jack $2; drinks (water, pop, juice box, or iced tea) $1; candies 25 or 50 cents; and licorice $3.
To cover the cost of the new splash pad, called the Rotary Splash Pad, the Nicholls Oval Neighbourhood Association raised $52,000, which included $15,000 from The Rotary Club of Peterborough Kawartha and a $10,000 grant from Farm Credit Canada, along with other local business donations. A further $20,500 came from the Accessibility Advisory Committee and $180,000 from the city of Peterborough.
The splash pad opened June 27, proving a huge hit with kids of all ages during the recent heat wave.
