LILLIAN FORESTER

-

Another person gathering people together this summer is Lillian Forester. Lillian is a local participant in the Kawartha Potter’s Guild. Lillian makes pots and fires them in her outdoor propane RAKU kiln. Lillian is sharing her love of the craft with some of her neighbors and friends by providing pots for her invitees, glazing them and then assisting with the firing process. The pieces will be taken home and be a “look what I did” object d’art.

A potluck luncheon will be part of the enjoyment. Lillian knows the firing process and encourages her guests to wear long pants and shoes which cover the whole foot. Lillian hopes that participants would make a donation to the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society in one of the many “begging boxes” in Peterborough in lieu of payment for glazing.

RAKU is an ancient Japanese form of firing tea bowls for their tea ceremonies. Westerners have adapted and expanded this method of firing and we do just about everything besides tea bowls. The final pieces are porous, will not hold water and should not be used in conjunction with food.
