Senior Tigers edged 6-5 by Clarington Cubs
Ricarts Rhinos pitcher Steve McNaughton, pictured with teammate Garry Manley, was the winning pitcher in an 11-3 win Thursday night at the George (Red) Sullivan East City Bowl in city men's softball league action.
Defending champion Ricarts evened up the Peterborough Men’s Softball Association city’s men’s league championship series at 1-1 with an 11-3 win Thursday night over Marshalls at the George (Red) Sullivan East City Bowl.
Steve McNaughton was the winning pitcher while Chris Van Volkenburg took the loss for Marshalls.
Ricarts took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBI doubles by Dan Burnham and Mark Langley.
Jason Cain had a solo home run in the second to make it 4-0.
Marshalls stormed back to cut the lead to 4-3 in the fourth with three runs on a two RBI single for Joe Devlin and an RBI single by Tyson Andrew.
Ricarts added runs in the fifth on a two-RBI double by Mark Langley and an RBI single by Craig Buttar.
Ricarts made it 11-3 in the sixth on a three-RBI home run by Buttar.
The best-of-seven series continues with Game 3 Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and then a double-header starting at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the George (Red) Sullivan East City Bowl. The Peterborough Hobie’s Sports Senior Tigers fell 6-5 in a game against the Clarington Cubs on Sunday, despite completing two double plays in the second and third innings. Cory Barker hit a home run, a triple, and a single for the Tigers with Cory Lee and Brad Thompson adding doubles. Brandon Makimoto, Kurtis Borland and Mike Nieukirk contributed singles. Curtis Lee allowed two hits over five innings for Peterborough.
