Douro-Dummer Township Deputy Mayor Karl Moher, who recently retired from his insurance and investment business in Lakefield, was named Friday night as citizen of the year at the Kawartha Chamber of Commerce and Tourism’s 2016 Awards of Excellence.
There were 80 nominations for the nine categories, including 20 in the customer service category, for the awards, which were given out at Elmhirst’s Resort on Rice Lake.
“Moher has demonstrated a quiet and unwavering commitment to the area, as a business person, municipal politician and community initiator,” states a release from the group.
“While his community involvement is quite varied, his role as one of the founding directors of the Lakefield
Community Medical Support Foundation is often cited for its positive impact on the community. This group
was instrumental in raising millions of dollars to establish the Morton Community Healthcare Centre.”
The agency represents businesses in Selwyn, Douro-Dummer, Trent Lakes and North Kawartha townships along with Curve Lake First Nation.
