-

Two people were arrested by city police Monday afternoon at the Lansdowne St. Walmart store. Store staff told police that two people took items off shelves, returned them to customer service without paying and were given gift cards in lieu of a refund. The two then went shopping. Police allege the man put items from the food aisle under his coat and didn’t pay while the woman used the gift cards to buy other food items. A store security officer stopped the pair outside the store and police were called. Scott Edward Saxby, 32, of Water St., was charged with theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and failing to comply with a probation order. He was also charged with uttering a forged document in connection with an incident involving an altered medical prescription in 2014. Crystal Dawn Rellinger, 26, of no fixed address, was charged with fraud under $5,000 and failing to comply with a probation order. They were held in custody and were to appear in court Tuesday. A funeral will be held Thursday for John Shaw, the 52-year-old Ennismore man who died Thursday after his snowmobile went through the ice on Stoney Lake off Emerald Isle Road last Thursday. His body was recovered Friday by OPP divers. Mr. Shaw was the father of three children and is survived by his fiancee Maureen Taylor. Visitation is Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge St. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 360 Reid St., followed by a reception and celebration of life at the Peterborough Lions Community Centre at 347 Burnham St. in East City. The Strumbellas, who rose to international fame last year with their chart-topping single Spirits, were nominated Tuesday for three Juno Awards, including single of the year, group of the year and the Juno fan choice award.
