Norwood students speaking up
Elementary school kids in Norwood take part in public speaking competition
Norwood’s St. Paul School students had the opportunity in early February to talk to their classmates and a panel of judges about subjects that they found interesting.
St. Paul’s annual public speaking competition is the first in a series of contests that can potentially have students literally talking their way to provincewide recognition for their oratorical skills through a Public Speaking program organized and administered by the Royal Canadian Legion (St. Paul student Lora Ross proved this last year by winning the provincial contest in the primary division.).
The winners from the three age groups (Grades 1 through 3, 4 through 6 and 7 and 8) from both St. Paul’s and a duplicate contest held at Norwood Public School moved on to the next stage and delivered their speeches at the Norwood Legion’s annual branch Public Speaking Contest on Saturday, Feb. 18.
The young and talented orators continued to show a great deal of passion and interest in their chosen topics, leaving the judges in awe and with a difficult problem of selecting their placing. The winners will move on to the Legion’s District Competition, More details on the legions branch competition will be included in my next column.
