Ready to go Bollywood
Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation offers preview of Bollywoodhip hop benefit event set for March 25
PETERBOROUGH – The Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation and the Friends volunteer committee are partnering to host a fundraising event called PRHC Foundation Goes Bollywood late next month.
A sneak-peak of the dance performance was held at the MercedesBenz Peterborough car dealership on Crawford Dr., the event sponsor, and featured seven dancers showing off part of their Bollywood-hip hop fusion routine.
The event is scheduled for March 25 at The Venue on George St. Proceeds will go toward the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation’s $1.9 million campaign to provide three new mammography machines for the PRHC’s breast assessment centre.
Lesley Heighway, CEO of the foundation, said the new machines utilize 3-D scanning called tomosynthesis that allow medical doctors to detect breast cancer sooner.
Dr. Bharat Maini is an anesthesiologist at the hospital and also a member of the Friends volunteer committee. The committee performs annual events and donates the proceeds to various causes and chose to once again support the foundation.
Maini introduced the dancers with a short dance move of his own. He explained that Bollywood is like disco in many ways.
“There are no set moves really, so like disco you can do anything as long as you are moving to the beat,” he said.
One of the lead performers and Bollywood choreographer, Rodney Pinto, said he enjoys when he gets the chance to dance for a great cause.
The event will feature a combination of Bollywood and hip hop dancing while telling the story of two PRHC physicians who fell in love at the hospital. North Indian style cuisine will be offered buffet style.
Following the dinner and performance guests will get to dance along - with Bollywood or hip hop dance instructions provided.
NOTE: Tickets for the event are $175 for VIP and $125 for general admission and can be purchased by calling 705-876-5000.
