Four from Trent Swim Club compete at Winter Festival

- EXAMINER STAFF

The Trent Swim Club qualified four swimmers for the Ontario Winter Festival Swim Meet in Etobicoke Feb. 18 and 19, up from one competitor in 2016.

Mackenzie Garside, Maxine Mullen, Eli Ferrari and Page Piche all competed in individual, and for the first time, relay races with 960 of the province’s best swimmers.

Garside took one second off of her best time for the 200 metre breaststroke and swam well in seven events.

Mullen achieved six personal best times and a 10th place finish in the 200 breaststroke.

Ferrari was 12th in the 200 breaststroke and 15th in the 100 breaststroke.

Piche swam in and placed 29th breaststroke.

Head coach Dan Stratton said it was a good sign for the club to be able to field a relay team.

“Competing in a relay in the 14 and under age group really improved the overall experience for those athletes,” Stratton said.

“It also signals a marked improvement in the club’s performance as last year only one athlete (Garside) qualified to compete at this provincial level competition.”

Spring registration for the club’s youngest age groups six years and up begins on March 8. More information can be found at www.trentswimming.com or by emailing contactus@trentswimming.com. six events in the 200
