Peterborou­gh team golden at Seniors Games

A team selected from players of the Peterborou­gh Seniors Hockey Club won the gold medal in the over 65 division of the 2017 Ontario Seniors Winter Games held in Cobourg.

They finished the preliminar­y round with two wins and a tie which qualified them for the semifinals.

They won their semifinal 2-1 against Sudbury on a goal with four seconds remaining in the game.

In the gold medal game they again used last minute heroics with Gene More scoring with 35 seconds remaining to pull out a 1-0 victory over the Brampton regional team.

Goaltender Mel Lawrence was outstandin­g in the tournament allowing only four goals in five games.

The finish qualifies the team to participat­e in the Canadian Senior Games in Saint John, N.B. in August 2018. The Peterborou­gh Seniors Hockey Club won the gold medal at the Ontario Seniors Winter Games in Cobourg.
