Peterborough team golden at Seniors Games
A team selected from players of the Peterborough Seniors Hockey Club won the gold medal in the over 65 division of the 2017 Ontario Seniors Winter Games held in Cobourg.
They finished the preliminary round with two wins and a tie which qualified them for the semifinals.
They won their semifinal 2-1 against Sudbury on a goal with four seconds remaining in the game.
In the gold medal game they again used last minute heroics with Gene More scoring with 35 seconds remaining to pull out a 1-0 victory over the Brampton regional team.
Goaltender Mel Lawrence was outstanding in the tournament allowing only four goals in five games.
The finish qualifies the team to participate in the Canadian Senior Games in Saint John, N.B. in August 2018.
