Peterborough’s highest-paid public sector bureaucrat in 2016 was the new president and CEO of the hospital – a job that’s been in the top spot for years.

Dr. Peter McLaughlin, the president and CEO of Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC), received $365,861 in salary and $7,000 in taxable benefits from the hospital in 2016.

That’ s up from $313,896 in 2015, when he was still interim leader of the hospital. (He had no taxable benefits that year.)

McLaughlin, a cardiologist, was named interim CEO of the hospital in late 2014 after his predecessor, Ken Tremblay, was ushered out of his post.

McLaughlin was named permanent CEO of the hospital in early May 2016.

Behind McLaughlin were a variety of high-earners from the heath care sector and also from post-secondary education in Peterborough.

Leo Groarke, president of Trent University, earned a salary of $305,000 last year, with taxable benefits of $24,563.

Long-time Fleming College president Tony Tilly received $281,359 in salary, and $255 in taxable benefits in 2016.

Dr. Rosana Salvaterra, the medical officer of health for Peterborough Public Health, was next; she earned a lower salary in 2016 than she did in 2015 (although her taxable benefits went up very slightly).

Salvaterra made $277,659, plus $23,158 in taxable benefits in 2016, compared to $291,687 and $23,199 in taxable benefits in 2015.

Three administrators from Trent University are next in line–each of them took home the same salary in 2016( their taxable benefits varied, one from the next).

Steven Pillar, vice-president of administration and finance, earned $240,000 plus $9,983 in taxable benefits.

Jacqueline Muldoon, provost and vice-president academic, earned $240,000 and $479 in taxable benefits.

And Gary Boire, special advisor to the president, earned a salary of $240,000 and $312 in taxable benefits.

The three vice-presidents of PR H Care next: they all took home the same in salary and taxable benefits in 2016.

Nancy Martin-Ronson, Brenda Weir and Chris Eivers all earned $230,000 and $2,735 in taxable benefits.

At the public and Catholic school boards, there were hundreds of sunshine-list employees.

A total of 228 people earned sixfigure salaries at the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR) in 2016 (which nearly ties with Trent University’s figure of 229 employees.)

At the public board, there were 111 employees who earned more than $100,000 in 2016.

The top earner at K PR was director of education Rusty Hick, who received a salary of $211,679 and $1,837 in taxable benefits.

Michael Nasello replaced McMorrow as director of education in late August. He doesn’t appear on the sunshine list for 2016.
