- CAROLINE MCCONNELL Northcrest_column@yahoo.ca

The Peterborough Astronomical Association (PAA) meets Friday at the Rotary Education Centre Guest Services Building at Riverview Park and Zoo.

Club member John Crossen, will continue with his popular and free Getting Started in Astronomy class, for those new to astronomy, from 6 until 7 p.m. prior to the meeting’s activities. These classes commenced in February and will continue at every monthly Friday meeting until June 2. Telescopes and math are not required. This class also includes up to five monthly observing sessions, weather permitting. Just bring your curious mind and learn about the fascinating hobby of astronomy for free.

The regular meeting at 7 p.m. includes a presentation on The Confusing World of Sky Maps and Star Charts by club members Ken Sunderland and Paul Ward. Find out about these tools of the trade for astronomers and how some of these value aids of maps and charts make the hobby of stargazing easier and more enjoyable.

Following the meeting there will be an opportunity to socialize with those present. This is an all ages, free event and a great opportunity to check out the PAA and all it has to offer, at no cost. The venue is barrier free.
