Bring your own quilts for show and tell. Tables will be set up to display them. Organizer Vilda Nurse recommends folding them lengthwise to a manageable width, then rolling them up with the patchwork on the outside. If you are bringing a quilt, please contact Vilda at vnurse@ nexicom.net.

A Farmer’s Diary

Otonabee farmer John Graham Weir kept journals from 1880 to 1925. They were donated to Trent Valley Archives by William and Juanita Mitchell of Stoney Creek. 1883 April 7, Sat.

Man and team quit working on the railroad and came home in the evening. I sold the team to Robert and James H. Montgomery for $110. 1887 April 4, Mon. I rode up to town in the cutter. After dinner I dropped into E.E. Bowie’s shop and talked politics all the afternoon with him and Valentine Best. Thawing very fast all day. 1889 April 5

This morning my man [Wright] did not get up when I called him. He lay until after breakfast and when I had the chores done he came out and after dinner he went away. In the afternoon Lovina and I attended a meeting of the Rev. Mr. Crossley in Mark Street Church in Ashburnham. At night I attended the Orange Lodge No. 49. Lovina went to Crossley’s and Hunter’s meeting. 1890 April 5

This morning the ground was froze hard enough to carry the waggon and a load of wood I took to town. In the afternoon I brought home a load of lumber and shorts. I never seen the mud so deep as it was this afternoon. Fred Reynolds came home with me tonight.
