Lakefield Legion set to mark Vimy anniversar­y

This Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the upstairs hall is the Legion’s monthly Fabulous Friday Night Dinner. It will be a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Tickets are $15 in advance (by Wednesday) or $18 at the door. Reserve your advance tickets by calling 705-652-7988. This Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. the Legion will have an Easter Turkey Spin. Buy tickets for a toonie for a chance to win a turkey, ham or prize from the prize table. This is an age of majority event, and admission is free.

Many historians and writers consider the Canadian victory at Vimy a defining moment for Canada. This Sunday there will be a remembranc­e ceremony for the 100th anniversar­y of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. It will start at 1 p.m. at the Lakefield Cenotaph. The Rev. Lakefield Lions

Tickets are going on sale for the Lakefield Lions’ 2017 Lobsterfes­t and Show. Tickets are $60 each and will be on sale April 29 and April 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Marshland Centre, 64 Hague Blvd. in Lakefield. The event will happen on June 3 at the Lakefield Fairground­s, with dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. and the Indian River Band starting at 8 p.m. Chemung Lions On Tuesday March 29, the Chemung Lake Lions presented a cheque for $95,000 to the Selwyn council for the completion of the Paul J. English Frisbee Park in Bridgenort­h.

Bridgenort­h United Church

On Wednesday at 7 p.m. all are welcome to watch a play entitled “Journey Through Jerusalem” chroniclin­g the last days of Jesus. The elements of the Passover Meal will be served. The United Church Women with the support of members of the congregati­on will present the play in the church sanctuary. Following the play light refreshmen­ts will be served. Cost is $5.00. On April 12 the Women’s Coffee Group meets from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and the topic will be a Lenten theme entitled “Under the Shadow.” All are welcome.

Easter Services for Bridgenort­h United are as follows: Palm Sunday Communion at 10:30 a.m. on April 9, quiet Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. on April 13, Good Friday service at 7 p.m. on April 14, and Easter Sunday Service at 10:30 a.m. on April 16.

Fairview United Church

Fairview United Church will be having a Good Friday Service and an Easter Sunday Service. Both Services will be at l0 a.m. at 724 Centerline Selwyn, and all are welcome.

On April 21 Fairview United Church will be having a Ham Dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for preschoole­rs. To reserve tickets call 705-7421328.

Lakefield United Church

On April 23 at 7 p.m. there will be a country music concert featuring Al Marshall and Barb Morrison at the church, 47 Regent St. in Lakefield. Tickets are $10 each and are available from the church office at 705-652-3126.

Artisans’ Centre

ARTISANity is back for 2017. The Artisans’ Centre Peterborou­gh is presenting a show and sale of hand-crafted items all made by local artisans at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield, located at 64 Hague Blvd., on April 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. You’ll find 3D art, decorated and traditiona­l beeswax candles, baby blankets, gourds, bowls, felting, garden décor, jewellery, mugs, painting, pottery, shawls, towels, vases, wall art, wooden pens, woven scarves and much more.
