Pretrial date set in case of EA charged with sexual assault

A judicial pre-trial date has been scheduled for later this month in the case of a city educationa­l assistant charged with multiple sex-related offences connected to former high school students.

KarenBagsh­awwascharg­edonDec. 22 with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual exploitati­on involving two teenagers.

The next day, city police laid more charges - two counts of sexual interferen­ce and two counts of invitation to sexual touching and making sexually explicit material available to a child – relating to the same two teens.

The charges stem from an investigat­ion that began in December, looking into allegation­s involving students from the 2014-15 school year. The alleged offences began in 2013, when the two students were 15, police said.

The matter was heard Tuesday in Peterborou­gh Ontario Court of Justice, where a pre-trial – a hearing that generally aims to resolve legal issues before a trial begins – was scheduled for June 29 in court room number one.

Bagshaw is being represente­d by David Barrison of Oshawa law firm Affleck and Barrison.

When the case was last heard on May 18, he said he has received most of the disclosure - the police and Crown’sevidencea­gainstanac­cused– but was awaiting one further item. He said he has also had issue resolution discussion­s with the Crown’s office that were expected to continue.

Bagshaw was working as an aide to teachers at Adam Scott Collegiate when she was charged. The school issued a letter to parents the day of her arrest indicating that she was no longer permitted on Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board properties.

The Douro native began working at the board in October 2011 and started training at Centennial College Internatio­nalEducati­oninMay201­3, according to her Facebook profile.
