Art in the Library launched at Keene, Bailieboro library branches
David Piccini of Port Hope is the new Progressive Conservative candidate for the NorthumberlandPeterborough South riding.
He will face veteran Liberal MPP Lou Rinaldi in the provincial election expected in June.
Piccini is on the 2018 ballot after being declared his party’s candidate Friday at a nomination meeting.
It’s his second stab at an elected seat; Piccini ran in Ottawa-Vanier.
Piccini’s parents are architect Reno Piccini and Barbara Piccini of Trinity College School.
“I congratulate David on his nomination as the Ontario PC candidate for Northumberland-Peterborough South,” Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown stated.
“David understands the importance of public service, and has gained unique experience as an analyst at Agriculture Canada as well as working for the minister of international trade. He currently works as an advisor to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, where he has developed a deep understanding of the challenges the Liberal government’s reckless cuts to health care have had on Ontario families and seniors.
Under riding redistribution, Otonabee-South Monaghan and Asphodel-Norwood townships are moving from the existing Peterborough riding to join with Northumberland County and the eastern portion of Clarington to form the new provincial riding of Northumberland-Peterborough South, matching the new federal riding now in place.
Rinaldi is currently the MPP for the Northumberland-Quinte West riding and was acclaimed earlier this year as the Liberal candidate for Northumberland-Peterborough South.
Local artists are invited to display their work in the Keene and Bailieboro libraries in a new endeavour called Art in the Library. Artists in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township and the rest of Peterborough County are welcome to apply to show their work for a month at a time, and perhaps demonstrate their techniques or participate in an artist-in-residence program. The cerulean blue sky is the limit. To apply contact the library at otsmon_library@nexicom.net or check out the website www.otosoumon.library.on.ca.
Food cupboard
It is unfortunate that more people have been needing the OSM Food Cupboard this year. As a result supplies are low and the food bank is sending out the call for non-perishable goods. Peanut butter, Cheese Whiz, macaroni and cheese, pasta, rice, pork and beans, soups, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned fish or meat, cereals, oatmeal, and nutfree school snacks are suitable goods to donate, but please check the bestbefore date before donating.
Donations can be dropped off at OSM Township Office, Kawartha Credit Union, Three Roads Farms, Hiawatha LIFE Centre, Otonabee Court Centre or Keene United Church. For more information e-mailosmfoodcupboard@nexicom. net or call 705-295-6952.
Halloween
Are you shopping for Halloween costumes yet? Or perhaps you like to make your own from an eclectic source of previously owned clothing. Two Small Rooms Thrift Store has Halloween costumes for children and adults, and plenty of material for do-it-yourselfers. The boutique is in the lower level of Keene Library and is open Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 3:00 pm.
