Tim Packer works now at Gallery on the Lake
At the Gallery on the Lake, 65 Gallery on the Lake Road you will find an astounding display of Canadian art.
Recently, originals new to the gallery were added to the Tim Packer exhibit.
Packer is one of the gallery’s most popular artists and one that knows the decisions artists sometimes have to make. Tim Packer began his formal art education at the age of 12, continued through the late teens studying graphic design at George Brown College.
He understands the term “starving artist.” To escape the effects of that label he joined the Toronto Police Service as a constable and enjoyed an 18 year career.
He kept pursuing art. In January 2000 he resigned from the fraud squad and made art his full time career. Packer’s style draws on the deep traditions of Canadian landscape painting with a modern interpretation. Bold oils and abstract patterns with dramatic lighting are used.
The overall effect of his work is sometimes compared to bright sunlight shining through a stained glass window.
The work of Lloyd Wilson is featured at the gallery for the month of September. Walking into the gallery his landscapes greet you and welcome you as an old friend, providing comfort as somewhere you have been and recognize.
Wilson grew up in rural Ontario where he gained his appreciation for nature which has influenced his subject matter. He is drawn to lake scenes, landscapes and rural settings. He, too, had another career having worked in the corporate world but now paints full time accomplishing about50 original paintings each year.
A visit to the Gallery on the Lake to take in the paintings of both of these artists and the many others represented there will be time well spent.
Buckhorn Public School
A new school year has started. Buses are rolling. Buckhorn Public School is open. The secretary, often the first person you meet at a school, is Shelley Robbins, a great BPS ambassador and supporter.
The 26 kindergarten children enjoying their first years at school will be guided by teacher Kirsty Hill and ECE Annete Bigg.
Two rooms of Grade1 / 2 with 35 children enrolled are taught by Laura Lukinuk and Victoria Wasson.
Susan Guest, long time Buckhorn teacher, is at the helm of a Grade 2/3 with 19 children. Melissa Davidson is working with the 18 children in Grade 4/5. Marie Bradford is responsible for the 22 students in Grade 5/6.
Pauline Jacobs, educational assistant, is again filling that position in Buckhorn as is Travis Pink. Marion Woodbeck is the SERT. Kathryn Orsi is the French teacher. Christa Geraldi is head custodian. At the head of all of this is principal, Mary Lou Wright, beginning her fourth year as principal. Wishing you all a great year!
