Searching for a Rebel Queen
Five entrepreneurial women competing for title Friday night at The Venue
A contest and a concert have been rolled into one for an evening of entertainment downtown Friday.
Rebel Queen is a contest for women looking to kick start their career in entertainment. It’s also a night of music, with Anthony Tullo and Nicole Rayy performing.
It’s happening at The Venue on George Street on Friday night. Doors open at 7 p.m.
For Tullo, the stop is one of many on his Rebel Tour. The country/rock singer takes the stage after Rayy’s opening performance.
Peterborough native Theresa Longo, who’s hosting the event, will be joining Tullo on stage to sing a song.
She’s an actress, model and fitness expert, and a graduate of Holy Cross Secondary School and Trent University.
Tullo contacted Longo a few months ago saying he’d like to play a show in Peterborough.
Though Longo lives in Toronto now, he thought she might like to team up to do a show in her hometown.
As entertainers, the duo decided to create an event that would benefit a woman trying to make a break in the entertainment world.
“We wanted a chance for one aspiring entrepreneur to win a career upgrade,” said Longo, 30.
Five women, ages 19 to 40, will vie for the title of Rebel Queen. The winner will earn prizes that’ll help further their career, including studio time, professional headshots, a fitness package and a facial.
After Rayy warms up the stage, the contestants will be introduced and asked to read an advertisement from an event sponsor. They’ll also be asked why they think they deserve to win.
They’ll be judged on their stage presence and confidence.
“It’s not about looks at all ... it’s about what they bring to the stage that night,” Longo said.
The event is open to the public and tickets are $10 at the door.
