Crashes on busy Thanksgiving Monday roads sent several people to hospital – including a patient who was flown to Toronto after a head-on crash east of the city.

A man and a woman were rushed to hospital after a two-vehicle collision just north of the intersection of Highway 7 and 28 that happened at about 6:30 p.m. One of them was flown in an Ornge air ambulance that landed just north of the crash site.

The patients were extricated by Otonabee-South Monaghan Township firefighters. Both vehicles were reportedly smoking after the crash.

Highway 28 was closed south of Old Norwood Rd. for several hours for the OPP investigation.

About an hour later, emergency crews were called to another head-on crash at Holden Rd. and the 8th Line near Bridgenorth.

Paramedics and Selwyn Township firefighters reportedly assisted two patients, including one from an SUV that ended up in a field after the crash.

Two people were also hurt in another crash earlier in the evening southwest of Lindsay.

Emergency crews, including Brock Township firefighters from Sunderland and Cannington, were called to the crash on Highway 7/12 near (Durham) Regional Road 13 at about 6:45 p.m. and a report that two people were trapped.

Multiple vehicles were also involved in an early-evening crash at (Haliburton) County Rd. 503 and Gooderham St. in Gooderham, OPP reported.
