Common sense needed on Parkway plan

-

I sent the following email to MPP Jeff Leal on August 10th, well before the current bickering by the naysayer minority in our city. So far I have received no response.

I wonder why! Dear Mr. Leal, I recently asked my local councillor, Lesley Parnell, “what is stopping us from

completing the Parkway connection between Clonsilla and Medical Drive? The whole

city perceives this as a no-brainer, there are no buildings in the way, all it needs is graded and paved.

What could possibly stop this from happening within the next two years?”

She replied that “the province will not let us continue in pieces. We must do a very expensive EA on the entire route and then build. This has added years and millions of dollars to the project.”

While I don’t believe that an environmental analysis is necessary at all, it is ludicrous to demand one before completing this section of the parkway, even less so than any analysis that may have been done before the building of the Medical Drive extension. The ability to avoid the bottleneck of traffic at Goodfellow and Sherbrooke, and Clonsilla and Goodfellow caused by having to zig zag from the top of the Parkway to the foot of Medical Drive, would be a major benefit to city drivers.

There has to be a way to challenge the need for an EA on this section.

The wide belief among Peterborough citizens is that common sense needs to prevail

on this issue and complete this section of the parkway. Arthur Duncan Wentworth Street,
