More than 100 dig in at spaghetti dinner
More than 100 community guests took the St. Matthew-St. Aidan Anglican church parish up on its offer for a spaghetti dinner. The invitation to the dinner is for people to be guests of the parish with no charge. The free will offering left by some is used to support the church ministry.
Marion Watson had a crew of parish and community folk who prepared table decorations, did the set-up, made salads and desserts, served the tables, and cleaned up. The sauce for the pasta was created by local chef Doris with the aid of helper, Peggy Roberts.
Wine bottles added a decorative touch to the Italian theme. Grace before the meal was offered in Latin by the parish priest. Parishioner Nick Sacchitiello was pleased as he hadn’t heard much Latin since he left Italy years ago.
A basket of Italian delights was raffled off at the end of the evening. The winner of the basket of Italian delicacies was a young lady who was baptized at St Matthew -St Aidan’s a few years ago. Hanna-Sky came to the supper with her grandmother and her great-aunt.
The parish thanks all who gathered this evening for the great food and for a pleasant time spent with fellow members of the local community.
Knowledge Circles
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Buckhorn Community Centre the Knowledge Circles Project invites citizens in The Land Between region (from Georgian Bay to the Ottawa Valley) to share their observations/knowledge of the land and build community relationships. Project leaders are the Land Between organization with Curve Lake First Nation and Hastings Stewardship Council.
Knowledge Circle conferences are based on traditional Indigenous Talking Circles. These events are for landowners and resource-users (farmers, hunters, gardeners, hikers, etc.) The goals of these Circle events are to share local knowledge, understand the conditions of the land, cultivate cooperation, and develop strength through new relationships. Political agendas are not acceptable in these gatherings.
Registration is required for this free event which includes lunch. Contact Leora Berman at 705478-4838 or info@thelandbetween.ca or register online at knowledgecircles.ca
Elder Abuse Workshop
Community Care volunteers, drivers and office workers plus residents of Bobcaygeon and members of St. Matthews/St. Aidans came to the Anglican church in Buckhorn for a one hour workshop on the prevention of elder abuse.
An interactive presentation with video and questions provided the message that we are all responsible for the protection of the elderly that live in our community. It was stressed that the elderly need to know that their community supports them and that they are listened to. Elder abuse is defined as whenever someone limits or controls the rights and freedoms of an older adult. The older adult is unable to freely make choices because they are afraid of being humiliated, hurt, or of a relationship ending.
Contact information was provided for support services, police, legal and reporting of abuse. To book a workshop or presentation for your organization contact 705742-7067 or INRaffiliateptbo@ gmail.com
