Lang named Ontario’s Top Small Museum
Lang Pioneer Village Museum won the people’s choice award for Ontario’s Top Small Museum last week.
The museum was recognized by Attractions Ontario, a tourism-based association, on Friday.
Ontarians were able to cast their vote for a number of nominees in the people’s choice category, including the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology, Bytown Museum, Diefenbunker – Canada’s Cold War Museum, the London Children’s Museum, Annandale National Historic Site, Cornerstone Canadian Art and Craft Ltd., Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, Dundurn Castle and Parkwood – the R.S. McLaughlin Estate National Historic Site.
Laurie Siblock, Lang Pioneer Village Museum’s assistant manager, stated that it takes a whole community to win such an award.
“We are grateful for the incredible amount of support that comes from our local community,” Siblock wrote.
As well as support from the local area, Siblock mentioned the many visitors who come from near and far to visit the village and all the staff and volunteers who bring the village to life.
Lang celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
“It is important for us to acknowledge the hard work of the people who came before us, who have the vision in 1967 to create a pioneer village to preserve and promote local history,” Siblock stated.
Lang is also up for the Attraction of the Year award, facing the Ganaraska Forest’s Treetop Trekking and Sudbury’s Science North in the category. The winner will be announced at the Ontario Tourism Summit on Nov. 7.
