Volunteer honoured with Lifetime of Service award
The Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association recently presented a Lifetime of Service award to Bill Gilbert, at Emmanuel United Church.
Gilbert is a member of the As One That Serves (AOTS) Chapter, established at George Street United Church over 50 years ago. The AOTS Chapter is involved in a variety of charitable work, including raising funds to help children attend camp and supporting overseas students. In the early 1990s, members recognized a need for non-profit housing in Peterborough and began planning for AOTS Community Homes.
The 79-unit building, now known as Chemong Village, opened in 1994. Gilbert was involved with the housing from the beginning planning stages and provided leadership for the project for almost three decades. The award was presented by Kathy Blackwood, housing manager at Kawartha Participation Projects and Rebecca Morgan Quinn, manager of housing with the City of Peterborough.
