- MARLYS KERKMAN BUCKHORN kerkmam@gmail.com

The Firefighters Association of Trent Lakes recently made a major donation to Camp Bucko.

Camp BUCKO (BUrn Camp for Kids in Ontario) is a camp open to burn survivors between the ages of seven to 17. The camp has grown to more than 70 children attending the week long camp in August. There is no fee to attend Camp BUCKO.

Camp Bucko is a registered charity which provides a program through generous donations from Firefighters Associations and service groups. With the donations received each child’s stay at camp, their transportation and camp “swag” is fully funded.

A loonie auction with a kayak, bike, wine fridge, and gift cards among the items plus a country raffle with gift baskets, various assortments of toiletries, honey and local store vouchers provided enough cash to make a $2200 donation to Trent Lakes Outreach for families in need.

This all happened at the Lakehurst Hall on August 26. This charitable event for two deserving organizations includes a dinner and is a biannual event.
