Omemee Medical Centre seeking board members

The Omemee Medical Centre is looking for interested people to sit on the Board of Directors. The board consists of up to nine members and four will be completing their terms. The current board has been in place since 2007, so new blood and thoughts are needed. The board meets four evenings per year. Their goal is to bring health care services to Omemee. Seniors group

Omemee Seniors will meet Nov. 7, 14 and 21 at 1 p.m. at the Omemee Legion for euchre. Cost is $2.50 per person. Nov. 28, 12:30 p.m. is the monthly potluck, $3 per person. Bring your favourite dish to share along with your cutlery, mug and plate to speed up clean up.

Church events

Janetville Pastoral Charge (Janetville and Mount Horeb United Churches) have several events coming up. Community luncheons will be held Nov. 16 and Dec. 21, noon at Janetville United. A free will offering is collected for the local elementary school food programs.

The female singing group, Joyfull Noise, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m at Janetville United, 714 Janetville Rd. Tickets are $10 and available by calling the office at 705-324-4006. Dec. 9, 2 to 4 p.m., Rock’n Grandma Et Compagnie will be entertaini­ng. Tickets are $10.

Vendor fundraiser

Scott Young Public School will be the setting for a Vendor Fundraiser, Nov. 18, 9:30 to 1:30 p.m. Free admission. There will be a variety of vendors selling items, snacks and drinks available. The Grade 8 students will be offering gift wrapping for a small fee to raise funds for their end-of-year trip.

Santa parade

Plans are coming together for this year’s Santa Claus Parade, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. The parade begins at Scott Young Public School, Walnut St. and progresses to the Legion via Hwy.7 There is no official theme other than Christmas. Community groups and businesses are encouraged to create a float for the event. Following the parade, Santa Claus will meet with the younger children at Coronation Hall for hot chocolate and a treat. The event is organized by the Omemee and District Lions Club.

Group meeting

There will be an osteoporos­is support group meeting Nov. 21, 1:30 p.m. at Adelaide Place, 84 Adelaide St. S., Lindsay. Melissa McNanara from the Local Health Integratio­n Network will be speaking.

Workshop

There will be a workshop about starting a farm or food co-op 101, Dec. 8, 1 to 4 p.m. at 270 George St. N., Peterborou­gh. The event is hosted cooperativ­ely between Farms at Work and Local Food and Farms Coop. Cost is $15 per person and informatio­n is available at 705-743-7671. Health program

“The Beat Goes On” heart health program will be held at 65 Melbourne St. W. (Village Housing), Oct. 31, 1:30 p.m. with the Ross Memorial Hospital Diabetic Education Team in attendance. Nov. 28 will feature Lauren Gogol, Community Care Registered Dietician talking about Healthy Heart Eating. Call 705-324-6111 ext 4145 to register.

House tour

The third Downeyvill­e and area Historical Christmas house tour is Nov. 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $20 and tickets can be ordered by calling Mary at 705-793-2013.

Jam sessions return

Jim and the Jammers Jam sessions have returned to the Omemee Legion. Sessions will be Nov. 11, 25, Dec. 9 and 23 beginning at 1 p.m. For informatio­n call Jim at 705799-6912.

Tribute banquet

The Remembranc­e banquet will be held at the Omemee Legion, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. Social time is one hour before dinner. Speaker will be world traveler and historian Rick Harding. Tickets Are $20 and available by calling the Legion 705-799-5095 or Terry 705-799-1358.

Remembranc­e Day services will be held at Coronation Hall and Cenotaph, Nov. 11 following the parade which leaves the Legion at 10:30 a.m.
