Lakefield Curling Club undergoing major renovation
The Lakefield Curling Club is undergoing major renovation, and both the Lakefield Lioness Lions Club and the Lakefield Lions Club are supporting the project. On Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. there will be a ceremony at the curling club wherein both Lions clubs will present a shared donation of $20,000 to the project.
The Lakefield Curling Club is celebrating its 140th anniversary, having been founded in 1877. The present clubhouse was financed and built by members of the community in 1961.
Since then there have been several upgrades including a new ice plant in 1983, insulated steel roof replacement in 1995, new chiller and header in 2001, a refurbished compressor in 2003, a new condenser in 2015 and a recent 100 KW solar panel roof top installation under the Ontario Power Authority Feed-in Tariff Program. All are welcome to attend the donation ceremony.
Christ Church
Christ Church Community Museum invites all to attend their annual Christmas Tree Lighting at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 1. After the lights on the tree are lit there will be carol singing and a special guest, musician Michaela Hetherington. There will be a free will offering collected, as well as home-baked cookies and apple cider.
Free Senior Skating
There will be free senior skating at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre, sponsored by the Regency Retirement Home in Lakefield. The free senior skating will take place every Tuesday and Friday at the arena from 9 to 11 a.m. for everyone aged 55 and over from now until mid-March. Lakefield Horticultural Society
On Tuesday there will be a presentation by the Lakefield Horticultural Society at 7:30 p.m. at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield. Anna Mizyn, owner of Anna’s Perennials, will be speaking about winter hardy cacti and succulents for this region. Community Care
There will be a Community Care Holly Tea, Bake Sale and Silent Auction on December 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Martin’s Church Community Hall in Ennismore. All are welcome. The church is located at 513 Ennis Road, and participants should RSVP by November 30 to 705-292-8708.
Marshland Centre
Christmas at the Marshland Centre will return on Nov. 18 and 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
There will be handcrafted work from more than 20 local artisans. Admission is free and donations for the Lakefield Food Bank and Lakefield Animal Welfare Society are welcome.
United Church
Bridgenorth United Church will have an auction, both silent and live, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church, located at 832 Charles Street in Bridgenorth. You can bid on a collection of both new and used items, as well as services and entertainment items. This year there will be a kayak (valued at $645) auctioned off between 12 and 12:30. There is sure to be something for everyone, just in time to start Christmas shopping. You can pop a balloon with a valuable surprise inside. Lunch will be available for purchase from the Tasty Lunch Bar. All are welcome.
Santa Claus Parade
The Lakefield Lions Santa Claus Parade will be at 1 p.m. this Sunday. Registration will be from 12 p.m. until 12:45 at the Lakefield Legion. There will be volunteers collecting non-perishable food for the Lakefield Food Bank along the parade route, as well as volunteers collecting toys for the Toy Drive.
St. John the Baptist Anglican Church
St. John will have its Muffins and More sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 81 Queen Street in Lakefield. There will be a baking, crafts, books, art, scarves, purses, plants and jewelry for sale. Admission is $5, and all proceeds support the church.
