Free skating coming to Lakefield arena this winter

Winter is upon us, and there will be free skating at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre, located at 20 Concession Street in Lakefield, on the following dates:

Jan. 20 from noon – 1 p.m. Jan. 27 from noon – 1 p.m. Feb. 3 from noon – 1 p.m. There will also be free skating at the Ennismore Community Centre, located at 553 Ennis Road in Ennismore, on the following dates:

Jan. 14 from 1 – 2 p.m.

Jan. 21 from 1 – 2 p.m.

Jan. 28 from 1 – 2 p.m.

Feb. 4 from 1 – 2 p.m.

There will also be Free Skating for Seniors at the LakefieldS­mith Community Centre every Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Lakefield Legion Branch 77

The Lakefield Legion Branch 77 will host its Fabulous Friday Night Dinner this Friday, featuring roast beef with all the trimmings. Tickets are $15 in advance (by Wednesday) or $18 at the door. Reserve your advance tickets by calling (705) 652-7988.

Ennismore Community Centre

All are welcome to walk indoors and out of the weather at the Ennismore Community Centre. Residents can enjoy an indoor walking space during the winter months at no charge. The doors will be open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 10 a.m. throughout the winter. Selwyn Public Library

There will be a Poetry Night at the Lakefield Library on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to read a poem, recite a poem, or simply listen to poetry. It will be a comfortabl­e, open evening to discuss and enjoy poetry of all kinds. This program is drop-in, with no registrati­on required.

Toddlertim­e starts on Jan. 17 and runs for 6 weeks. The 30-minute program is for children 19 - 36 months of age, and is full of active sharing of books, fingerplay­s, games and songs for you and your toddler.

The program will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Bridgenort­h Library on Tuesdays, starting Jan. 17. Registrati­ons is required at www.mypublicli­brary.ca

Babytime also starts on Jan. 18 and runs for six weeks. The program will be at the Ennismore Library from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursdays.

There will be bounces, tickles, books, and songs for you and your baby aged 0 to 18 months. Registrati­on is required at www.mypublicli­brary.ca

Township of Selwyn

There will be a Public Informatio­n Centre on the Charlotte Street Reconstruc­tion on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Centennial Room of the Lakefield Library, located at 8 Queen Street. All are welcome

To this open house to ask questions and learn more about the reconstruc­tion plans.

Douro Dummer Public Library

The Douro-Dummer Public Library will have an art gallery opening on Jan. 12 from 7 to 8 p.m. at 435 Douro 4th Line. Fabric artist Anne Garron will be featured, and this is the first time there has been a textile artist in the gallery. The show will run from Jan. 2 to Feb. 20, with the grand opening on Jan. 12. All are welcome to attend and there will be refreshmen­ts.
